Bertie & Clinton Mutual Insurance Company
Several years after Canada was a country, Bertie and Clinton became an insurance company for the local farm community. Farmers needed insurance for their barns, homes and livestock and Bertie and Clinton Mutual Insurance Company developed specialized farm insurance to protect them. After many successful years serving only the farming business, Bertie and Clinton Mutual began offering insurance for home and auto to support the growing needs of the greater Niagara region, as the population expanded. BCM, as it is now known, expanded in similar fashion to provide protection for the small business need of the Niagara community. As a Mutual Insurance Company, BCM is owned by their customers or policyholders. BCM is not a large insurance company that investors control. Old Becomes New Again
policyholders and provides a high level of local friendly service and support to the community, offering the same insurance products that are available elsewhere. BCM provides profit sharing to policyholders if there are excess profits above the company?s operating needs. Bertie and Clinton have provided policyholders with refund cheques for many of the years that they have been around ? and they have been around since 1880. BCM provided personal service through a growing number of company agents. These agents represent only BCM and their customers. This avoids conflicts from competing interests, so service and customer satisfaction is key. In past days, agents would visit their customers at their home and conduct business at the kitchen table. They still do and in today?s digital world, that?s a plus. Agents have strong personal connections in the community and are involved in various charity and social events. BCM kept on growing over the years and to support this growth, they moved into larger premises several times over the years. Up until April 2017, they were located on Merrittville Highway in Thorold. With an eye to expansion, BCM looked to build a new building in Welland. They settled on the site of the former Tallman Transport on Niagara Street in North Welland. With the help of the City of Welland and Timbro Construction, they erected a state of the art building. With their recent Open House a success, they welcome visits to their new office to see what BCM is about.
